Minor Requirements

 

The Minor in Law Program is designed for non-law students who want to get legal knowledge and specialize either in Public or Business Law. 

Students have to earn a total of 42 credits to get the Law Minor Certificate. The latest deadline to apply for the Minor is the fall semester of the student’s senior year. The request (the application letter in free form) should be approved by the Major and Minor (Law) Department heads. 

Students must earn a minimum grade of “B-” for the “Introduction to Law” course.

  • Introduction to Civil Law Property

Required course:

  • Public International law I

Elective courses from the following:

  • Civil Law. Business Entities
  • Intellectual Property Law: National and International Dimension
  • Banking Law
  • Investment Law / Investment Law and Sustainable Development
  • Practical Aspects of Commercial Law
  • Comparative Corporate Governance
  • International Commercial Transactions
  • Other courses[*]

Elective courses from the following:

  • Constitutional Law of the Kyrgyz Republic
  • International Human Rights Law
  • International Humanitarian Law
  • International Criminal Law
  • Health Law and Equity: Western Approaches
  • Administrative Law
  • International Intellectual Property Law
  • Non-commercial Law
  • Other Courses [*]

No more than two 200-400 level cross-listed courses from the following:

  • International Trade law
  • National or International Commercial Arbitration
  • European Law
  • Comparative Law in a Changing World

 

Courses that will not count toward minor: Legal Skills, Moot Court, Legal Clinic, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Theory of Law, Civil Procedure, Private International Law, Labor Law, Legal Research Methods, Thesis Research Seminar.

[*] If the schedule proposes other courses not listed in the current table, please contact the IBL Program Head to define these courses’ concentration before enrolling. You should contact the Program Head via email (law@auca.kg) and at least one week prior to the end of the registration period so as to make sure that the places in the courses will be available.
