Abstract: This lecture considers the past 60 years of social and cultural anthropological research in Central Asia explores what has held the field back for so long, and why and how it has become so productive in the past decade. I seek to stimulate a conversation about the value and potential of anthropology of Central Asia, and the reasons it has been slow to develop as an academic field.

Offer of University of St Andrews about development of socially economic situation in the countries of Central Asia
University of St. Andrews, UK, St Andrews, with assistance of RangeRover fund, gives to young scientists from the countries of Central Asia an opportunity of three-months stay in St Andrews for the purpose of preparation of the publication on the subject chosen at own discretion in the field of socially economic situation of the country. The beginning of the program is planned for September, 2017. Conditions of participation in the program: 1. Nationality or permanent residence in the countries of Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan or the Kyrgyz Republic). 2. The ended higher education. 3.
