Kasymova Dilnara Zhamaldinovna will be teaching Uighur at this year’s summer language program at the American University of Central Asia and she is a native speaker of Uighur.  The instructor received her Ph.D. in 1995 from the Kyrgyz State University under the dissertation: “Operation of the Uighur language in Kazakhstan:  Sociolinguistic Analysis”.  Her teaching experience includes working as the senior lecturer of Russian at the Central-Asian University and as a foreign language teacher at the Xinjiang University in Urumqi, China.  During her time at both of these institutes Dilnara Zhamaldinovna was the principle researcher at the Centre for Uighur Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies.  From 1999-2002 Dilnara Zhamaldinovna participated in a training program at the University of International Relations and Foreign Languages to improve her ability to teach Uighur to foreigners.  Her research interests are sociolinguistics, cultural linguistics and grammar.  She has published several articles on languages, including the role of Uighur in China’s language policy.  The instructor can also converse in Russian, Kazakh and English.
