Jamil Omary
"Hello! I’m Jamil Omary, originally from Afghanistan. I hold a Bachelor's degree in International and Comparative Politics with a minor in International Law from the American University of Central Asia. Currently, I’m in the final semester of my Master’s in Global Studies here at Bard College in NYC.
This semester, I’m interning with Commonpoint Queens, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting newcomers to the U.S. by helping them settle, secure employment, and navigate essential documentation and legal processes. My role as a Refugee Employment Intern in the Employment Department involves conducting employment assessments, assisting with résumé preparation, and guiding job searches. I also deliver presentations for refugees interested in pursuing higher education in the U.S. Additionally, I managed a series of case reviews to ensure the accuracy of client information across databases and digital files. This experience has been incredibly fulfilling— I feel fortunate to work with a supportive team that has made my time there both educational and enjoyable.
