Zarylbek Kudabaev is the Chair of the Applied Sciences Division and Chair and Professor in the Economics department at the American University of Central Asia. He holds his Ph.D. in Economic Sciences from the Institute of Economy under the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic (2005, Kyrgyzstan) and received his scientific degree of a Candidate of Physics and Mathematical Sciences from Bardin Central Scientific and Research Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy (1983, Russia), and a specialized degree in Physics from the Kyrgyz State National University (1975, Kyrgyzstan).

Professor Kudabaev joined AUCA in 2006 and is a well-established Professor with a long teaching and research track. He also has rich experience in serving the public sector of Kyrgyzstan. He was a research scholar in Economics at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (2017, Norway), a research scholar in Economics at the Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics at the University of Georgia (2012-2013, USA), and a visiting professor in Physics at the University of Kansas (1994, USA). He participated in various international conferences, seminars, and professional development programs, including research projects such as “The Impact of microcrediting on Households Well-being in Kyrgyzstan” in cooperation with the University of Georgia (2013, USA), “Economic Transformation, Household Behavior, and Well-being in Central Asia: the case of Kyrgyzstan” in collaboration with the German Institute for Economic Research (Germany), CASE-Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyzstan), Humboldt University (Germany), and AUCA (Kyrgyzstan). 

Professor Kudabaev served as a member of the Committee on State Awards of the Kyrgyz Republic on Science and Technology (2006-2008), a member of the Coordination Council on Science and Innovation Technology under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic (2005-2008), a National Coordinator of the Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) in Kyrgyzstan (2004), a team leader of the 1st National Agricultural Census of the Kyrgyz Republic (2002-2003), and a chairman of the Council of the Heads of Statistical Services of CIS countries (2002). He was a member of the Steering Committee of the PARIS21 Consortium, where he also represented CIS and Central Asian countries in PARIS21 (2000-2005). Under his leadership as Chairman of the National Statistical Committee (NSC) of Kyrgyzstan (1997-2005), fundamental reforms of the statistical system of Kyrgyzstan were carried out, and he was also Head of the Department on Free Economic Zones (FEZ) at the Apparatus of the Government of Kyrgyzstan (1995-1997). As such, he is known as one of the main founders of the most successful FEZ “Bishkek" in Kyrgyzstan.
