Dr. Cholponbek Ormukov is an Assistant Professor and Chair of the Applied Geology and Environmental Sustainability and Climate Science departments at the American University of Central Asia. He holds a Ph.D. in Active Tectonics from the Kyrgyz Institute of Seismology at the National Academy of Science of the Kyrgyz Republic (2008, Kyrgyzstan). He earned his geography specialization at the Geography Department of Jusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz State National University (1999, Kyrgyzstan).
Dr. Ormukov joined AUCA in 2020 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Chair in September 2023. He was a visiting researcher at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (2014, Norway), a Fulbright Exchange Program fellow (2011-2012, UC Santa Barbara & UC Davis, US), a visiting researcher at Korea University (2011, South Korea), a junior scientist at the Civilian Research Development Foundation (CSDF) Fellowship program at Chapel Hill (2006, US), and an exchange student of the NSF Research Scholarship at the University of Oregon (2005, Oregon, US). He is the author and co-author of over 20 research and scientific papers.
