Askarbekova Sezim is a New Generation Academy graduate, currently a junior student at AUCA majoring in Anthropology and International development, and a participate of the AUCA exchange program in the Bard Globalization and International Affairs Program in USA, New York, which provides a unique opportunity for students to take advanced courses in international affairs, while working in selected internships.

After coming from the Issyk-Kul region and graduating from the New Generation Academy on a competition basis with a full scholarship, it gave me a chance to continue my study at AUCA with a 90% discount. One of the main reasons why I decided to study at AUCA was the variety of exchange programs offered by the university, which allows students to expose themselves to a different cultural and academic environment.”

In the exchange program Sezim was able to experience a real New York City life, fulfill an internship at the UNSDSN’s Global Schools Program in the marketing and content team and communicate in a diverse environment with international students from different cultural backgrounds.

“While living in Manhattan near the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Central Park I was able to see the collection of art covering more than five thousand years of human evolution history. All of my classes were held at the BGIA office consisting of seminars, student discussion and writing, because professors were mostly practitioners in the diverse fields such as politics, human rights and journalism, as an example one of my professors was a journalist and writer at “The New York Times”. There were 27 international students in the program from France, Netherlands, Hungary, India, Belarus, Georgia, Pakistan, Palestine and America with whom I was studying. Due to the diverse community, I was able to get a broad range of ideas from people with different cultural backgrounds."

"In general, my exchange experience was very inspiring and entertaining, all knowledge that I gained at AUCA I could successfully apply to the practice at BGIA. America made a good impression on me, because my exchange semester was in fall, so I was able to see almost all seasons in NYC and experience all national celebrations. During the fall break I visited Harvard university and Massachusetts Institute of Technology with my AUCA group mates and it was one of the unforgettable trips.  Also, I would like to add that people in America are very nice and easygoing, because they love freedom, highly respect personal space, and eat a lot of pizza and donuts.
