June 10, 2020

Modern liberal arts and sciences education is a system of higher education designed to foster in students the desire and capacity to learn, think critically, and communicate proficiently, and to prepare them to function as engaged citizens. It is distinguished by a flexible curriculum that demands breadth as well as the depth of study, encourages inter-disciplinarity, and enables student choice” - Jonathan Becker.

One of the most unique undergraduate programs at AUCA is Liberal Arts and Sciences program. LAS is the American University of Central Asia’s first interdisciplinary English-taught undergraduate program. It focuses on various disciplines within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Its uniqueness is based on the freedom and flexibility to experiment. The program offers 11 new training majors in addition to existing majors. LAS prepares new specialists in the field of human rights, environmental and urban studies, mathematical modeling, social entrepreneurs, etc.

The program aims to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to make citizens of the 21st century successful in both personal development and professional careers. Graduates of the LAS department receive both the Kyrgyz diploma approved by the Ministry of Education and Science and the US accredited diploma.
