Task Force

Memo to Board of Trustees, 14 February 2020

Humanity is facing multiple self-inflicted crises such as climate change, environmental degradation, and the unsustainable use of natural resources.  A strong foundation of evidence suggests that the window of opportunity to avoid catastrophic outcomes for humanity and the planet is closing rapidly.  There is an urgent need for improving our understanding of these challenges and their implications for our civilization.  We need to quickly find solutions and foster transformative change in our behaviors.

Educational institutions can play a key role in addressing these challenges. AUCA, in particular, is well positioned to be the leading educational institution in sustainability in Central Asia. Eminent faculty, an energetic student body, and an exemplary campus provide the building blocks for AUCA to distinguish itself as a role model in education, research, and civic engagement. To become a regional leader, AUCA must mainstream environmental sustainability in all its activities and endeavors.
