Svetlana Jacquesson, PhD

Director, Head of MACAS

Svetlana holds a PhD in ethnology (2000) from the National Institute of Oriental Languages (INALCO) and the High School for Social Sciences in Paris (EHESS), France. In her research activities she has been experimenting with various approaches towards “identification” and “categorization” as crucial social and political phenomena. All through her research career, she has been also variously involved in organizing and supervising research activities and junior scholars.

Christopher Baker

Research Coordinator

Christopher is an associate professor at the Department of General Education. A PhD candidate at Indiana University, Bloomington, he is completing a dissertation on late Soviet era Kazakh literature. His research interests include historical thought, the imagination of Eurasia, and Central Asian literature. At CASI  Christopher is involved with improving the outreach and quality of MACAS, developing academic cooperation at graduate level and course development on Central Asia.

Mohira Suyarkulova, PhD

Research Coordinator

Mohira is an associate professor at the Department of International and Comparative Politics. She holds a PhD in international relations (2011) from the University of St. Andrews, UK. In her research she explores various aspects of the politics of nationhood. Most recently she has been engaged as a postdoctoral fellow in an international project on environmental and social history of Naryn/ Syr Darya River. At CASI Mohira takes part in plannning the Institute's events, in fostering "home-made" research and in increasing the local and international outreach of the Institute.

  

Aida Konokbaeva

Coordinator

Aida is in charge of keeping the financial accounts and providing logistical support to CASI’s activities. She is also actively involved in organizing CASI’s events, improving and updating CASI’s website, and facilitating the comminication between CASI and AUCA’s administration, faculty members and students.
