BLACK HISTORY MONTH MELTING POT ESSAY COMPETITION

In recognition of Black History Month in the United States, U.S. Embassy  in Kabul, Afghanistan is holding an essay writing contest. Black History Month takes place throughout the month of February every year to highlight the enormous contributions African Americans have made and continue to make to American society, values, culture, and tradition. Leaders in the United States and across the world also honor Black History Month by encouraging tolerance and respect for diversity.
 
The “Black History Month Melting Pot" Essay Competition is designed to generate an appreciation and tolerance of diversity. Strong national leadership is vital to ensure countries address its diversity challenges, integrating all parts of society to work together as one country and one people. Nowhere has this challenge been as great as it was in the United States during the civil rights movement.
 
The Melting Pot Essay Competition is an opportunity for you to think and write about the importance of appreciating diversity and welcoming everyone in society without discrimination based on gender, race, tribal affiliation, religion, or any other arbitrary category. 
 
AUCA officials will select the top ten essays. 
Those selected will be given a Certificate of Achievement and from the U.S. Embassy Kabul.

Black History Month Melting Pot Essay Competition RULES:
1. Essays must be at least 500 words and not more than 1,000 words in length
2. Essay deadline is February 15, 2015
3. Essays should be emailed to PerkinsJT@state.gov
