Signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between AUCA, AIFC Court and IAC
October Friday 28th was an important day for all AUCA community. On this day the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), the Court of the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC), and the International Arbitration Center (IAC) signed an Agreement of Mutual Understanding, which expands cooperation between organizations and marks the launch of the use of hearing halls in Bishkek.

At the American University of Central Asia, until the end of this week, you can see 3 exhibitions dedicated to the topic of environmental protection: a photo exhibition by Vlad Ushakov “The Time of Kozhozhash” and two exhibitions of ecocaricatures by the famous scientist, biologist, ornithologist and ecologist Emil Dzhaparovich Shukurov and the famous cartoonist Ruslan Valitova.

After AUCA: Basira Mir Makhammad on completing 2 Master’s in 2 years and studying for PhD
Basira Mir Makhammad graduated with a degree in Anthropology from AUCA in 2017. After AUCA, she went on to complete her Master’s degree in Archaeological Materials Science by studying at the University of Evora in Portugal, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece, and Sapienza University of Rome in Italy. Currently, she is studying at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Germany for her PhD. In this interview, Basira shares the story of how she managed to achieve her academic goals.

The Global Liberal Arts Challenge by Jonathan Becker
The recent issue of Ethics & International Affairs, a quarterly peer-reviewed academic journal published by Cambridge University Press on behalf of the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, featured an essay written by the president of AUCA, Jonathan Berker. In the essay, Jonathan Beker analyzes the role of U.S. institutions globally and suggests ways in which they can play more constructive roles.

After AUCA: Mursal Ayobi on her journey applying to the University of York
Mursal Ayobi graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from AUCA in 2021. This year, she received a Chevening Scholarship, the UK government’s fully funded international scholarship, and is currently studying at the University of York in Heslington, United Kingdom. In this interview, Mursal shares what it was like studying at AUCA and her journey to getting her Master’s degree.

The New Star returns to AUCA after a long break
After a long pause, the printed copies of the university newspaper The New Star can be spotted around the campus again. Since the start of the pandemic, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a temporary switch to online virtual study, The New Star ceased publishing in hardcopy but the paper continued to publish online. Now, as of September 2022, the newspaper is able to publish a print edition, which many students have welcomed warmly.

Cholpon Dzhakipova: The endless discovery of Japan
Cholpon Dzhakipova is a senior student majoring in Economics who spent her junior spring semester as an exchange student at Yokohama National University in Japan. “In a few words, this is how I remember Japan: beautiful natural scenery, mesmerizing old streets and houses, unique and exciting culture, and delicious food. And yes, the slogan of its tourism industry is absolutely correct: Endless discovery.” - shares Cholpon.
