AUCA Clio Project the Film Discussion on "Abdykerim Sydykov"

On Friday, November 29, the GenEd Program organized a film discussion session at the AUCA centered around the documentary "Abdykerim Sydykov, the Founder of Kyrgyz Soviet Statehood." The event aimed to foster a deeper interest and genuine curiosity among students and the general public regarding global and national history. The occasion was particularly special as it celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region.
The event attracted a diverse audience eager to engage with Kyrgyz history through cinematic storytelling. Esteemed guests included Tilek Murataliev, the script author and film director, alongside Aida Kubatova, PhD in History and Chair of the Soviet History Department at the National Academy of Sciences. Participants were treated to an insightful viewing of the documentary that chronicles Abdykerim Sydykov's pivotal role in shaping Kyrgyz statehood during a transformative historical period. The film highlights Sydykov's contributions and serves as a lens through which viewers can understand broader historical narratives within Kyrgyzstan and its journey towards autonomy.
Following the screening, Cholpon Turdalieva, an Associate Professor in the Anthropology program, led an engaging discussion. She guided participants through various themes presented in the film, encouraging dialogue about historical interpretation and its relevance to contemporary issues facing Kyrgyz society today. The event celebrated a significant milestone in Kyrgyz history. It underscored the importance of using creative mediums like film to engage with complex historical topics by bringing historians, filmmakers, and students together.
