Moderation Presentation of LAS Concentrations

On the 10th and 11th of April, the Liberal Arts and Sciences department at AUCA hosted a presentation showcasing the moderation of their concentrations. The moderation process in the LAS Department is a liberal arts methodology that helps students discover their interests in their first year freely and after choosing their future profession in their second year. There are currently 8 concentrations in LAS Department:

 

  1. Social Entrepreneurship and Design Thinking: This concentration explores innovative approaches to addressing social and environmental challenges through entrepreneurial initiatives and design methodologies. Students learn to develop sustainable solutions that create a positive impact in communities.

 

  1. Urban Planning and Design: Focusing on the design and development of urban spaces, this concentration delves into the complexities of urbanization, sustainable development, and community engagement. Students examine issues related to urban growth, transportation, housing, and environmental sustainability.

 

  1. Peace and Conflict: This concentration examines the dynamics of peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and reconciliation in diverse cultural and social contexts. Students explore theories of conflict, analyze case studies, and develop practical skills for promoting peace and addressing social tensions.

 

  1. Human Rights: Centered on the principles of equality, dignity, and justice, this concentration explores the theory and practice of human rights advocacy and protection. Students engage with issues such as international law, humanitarian intervention, and social justice movements.

 

  1. European Studies: This concentration offers an interdisciplinary study of Europe's history, politics, culture, and institutions. Students analyze the European Union, transnational governance, cultural identity, and regional cooperation within the context of globalization.

 

  1. Mass Communication: Focusing on the dissemination of information and media content, this concentration explores the role of mass media in shaping public opinion, cultural norms, and political discourse. Students study various forms of media, including print, broadcast, and digital platforms.

 

  1. Digital Cultures: Investigating the intersection of technology, society, and culture, this concentration explores the impact of digital technologies on communication, identity, and social interaction. Students analyze digital media practices, online communities, and emerging technologies shaping contemporary culture.

 

  1. Mathematical Modeling: Here students gain preliminary skills in designing and application of mathematical models in natural and social sciences. It gives knowledge and skills, sufficient for further use of a mathematical modeling method in various areas, in particular, in liberal arts. Concentration is based on courses in Applied Mathematics and Informatics and Software Engineering departments.

 

Throughout the presentation, students had the opportunity to engage with faculty professors, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into each concentration's curriculum, career pathways, and potential impact in their respective fields of study.
