December 16, 2022
As you know, on December 9, the Center for Civic Engagement, together with the student volunteer Green Club, held a Christmas Buy Nothing, the purpose of which was not only to exchange things and books, thereby extending their lives but also to raise funds for residents of the Bishkek City Nursing Home. The administration of the nursing home asked to give the elderly 60 warm men's winter hats.
Everyone could buy anything they liked at the fair (the point was that if you didn’t bring a thing or book to exchange for another thing or book you liked, you could buy everything you liked at an affordable price). All the money for the sold things and books went to the charity box.
In order to raise more funds to help the elderly, a sale of pastries was organized at the fair - sweet pies and cakes, which the organizers ordered from one craftswoman with the money collected at the 6R Fest.
And we are very pleased that Olga Tarabashkina, professor of the Sociology Department, who baked a chocolate cake from natural and healthy ingredients, as well as eighth-graders of gymnasium school No. 6, who prepared desserts in cups, especially for our gift and helped our volunteers sell ALL the desserts! All the sweets turned out to be very tasty and scattered very quickly, decently replenishing the piggy bank.
In addition, throughout the event, those who wished could put any amount in the donation box.
For 3 hours of the Christmas gift, we collected 14,500 soms!
The Center for Civic Engagement sincerely thanks every volunteer, and every participant of the fair - students, staff and professors, the wonderful host Shafiqa Mogul - for the things and books they brought, for purchases, for participating in games and a flash mob, for donations and for the help that each of you provided! Without you, without the contribution of EVERYONE of you, nothing would have happened!
Another 2,500 soms AUCA employees brought to the piggy bank after the event.
In TOTAL we have now accumulated 17,000 soms. However, this amount, unfortunately, is not enough to purchase all 60 hats - a maximum of 34-40. Therefore, we appeal to the entire AUCA community - let's collect another 7-10 THOUSAND SOMS IN THE REMAINING 7 DAYS BEFORE THE NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS (until December 23) and give hats to the old people before the New Year!
You can bring donations to room 235, Margarita Lazutkina, CCE coordinator, and put them in the donation box.
A photo and video report on the purchase and donation of hats to a nursing home will be posted on the AUCA website and social networks. Those who wish to help us with this can join us by writing to the email сcе@auca.kg or lazutkina_m@auca.kg.
