December 1, 2022
On November 26, 2022, students from FYS-1, FYS-2, and SYS, took part in the 7th Inter-University Visual Discussion between AUN and AUCA devoted to The Ways of Eliminating Female Slavery within the framework of Civic Engagement Project Crossing Borders Through Social Media and Dialogue initiated by Ms. Emilienne Akpan (AUN) and Ms. Ekaterina Galimova (AUCA) in 2019.
The goal of the online event was to introduce students to the problem of female slavery in Central Asia and Nigeria in particular. Students were able not only to identify the problem of female servitude but also to present and discuss the ways to eliminate it. In addition, students had a chance to practise their leadership, rhetoric, critical thinking, listening comprehension, and speaking skills. Some students confessed they had to overcome a psychological barrier to start talking to strangers.
Besides the General Discussion students initiated BreakoutRoom ones on such topics as Women Should be Paid Less Than Men in Some Professions, The Internet Should be Shut Down During Class Hours in all Universities, and Technology Facilitates Modern Slavery. AUCA students collected data that they are going to use either in their video projects, research papers or essays.
We want to express special thanks to the AUN and AUCA hosts Yusuf Abdullahi (LAW-2022), Zainab Alhaji (LAW-2022), Shervonshoh Tuighunov (IBL-122), Zainab Hashimi (BA-121), and Rinat Galiev (TCMA-122) who volunteered to conduct the event despite 5 hour time difference. They put a lot of effort into preparing for the discussion, which included searching for material on the topic and preparing questions for the discussion, updating the PowerPoint presentation, and logistics. During the online event, the hosts demonstrated excellent teamwork skills by communicating with the participants, giving comments, asking provocative questions, and collaborating with each other and the participants.
If you would like to join our discussion next semester, you are welcome!
