On Monday, May 23, Hillary Clinton visited our partner university Bard College and met with 34 students from Afghanistan who are currently enrolled at the College. Most of these students came to Bard after the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban last August as part of an effort by Bard, OSUN, and our other international partners to help Afghan students continue their education in safety. Bard has already accepted more than 100 Afghan students to its campuses. Bard expects the Annandale campus cohort to grow to at least 50.
In addition to meeting with the Afghan students, Clinton spent time with administrators and campus leaders of several Bard initiatives. Jonathan Becker, the interim President of AUCA gathered the whole impressions and inferences from the meeting with Hillary Clinton in one post.
"When I was in grammar school we were rated by three categories: needs improvement, achieves satisfactorily, and exceeds expectations. Hillary Clinton’s half-day visit to Bard exceeded expectations not because they were low, but because she did something relatively rare for the important people who visit: she did her homework, thought about what we do, had good questions for faculty students, and staff, and gave of herself in interactions, especially with our Afghan student." - Dr. Jonathan Becker.
