International Conference “The Afghan Crisis: The New Taliban Regime and Its Impact on Central Asia”

The AUCA Development Office organized the International Conference entitled “The Afghan Crisis: The New Taliban Regime and Its Impact on Central Asia”, which took took place on March 30, 2022. This event is made possible with the initiative led by Dr. Bermet Tursunkulova, Director of Development, and the generous support of the British Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The event was opened with a welcoming speech from Dr. Charles Garrett, HM Ambassador, UK Embassy, and Dr. Jonathan Becker, Interim President, American University of Central Asia, who welcomed all the participants and highlighted the importance of regional cooperation to cope with the ‘’new’’ security challenges and risks.

One of the main aims of this international conference was to critically discuss the ongoing dramatic developments in Afghanistan and their implications for Central Asian states through various angles. The conference speakers were from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and USA.

It was a great honor to have Dr Jennifer Brick Murtazashvili, Founding Director of the Center for Governance and Markets and Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh, as the key speaker of the conference.
