The Center for Civic Engagement is seeking volunteers for the Spring 2022 semester!

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE), which is an official body at AUCA that oversees civic engagement activities, grants and programs at the university level, is seeking volunteers for the Spring 2022 semester!

CCE is looking for two active students who would be interested in helping out with various projects and initiatives both within and outside AUCA, particularly, with the upcoming project “Green AUCA.”

“Green AUCA” is a new joint long-term project between the Center for Civic Engagement, the Center for Environment and Development (CED) and the Physical Plant Department (PPD) on waste management at AUCA. The uniqueness of the project is in fact that our university will become the first educational institution in Kyrgyzstan to implement not only the separate collection and sorting of waste on its territory, but also its delivery to waste processing organizations in Bishkek.

The first phase of the project begins in February 2022 with the plan to start sorting and recycling 3 types of waste: paper, plastic and computer/office equipment. It is expected that the whole university community will join this initiative, thus confirming and strengthening AUCA’s status as a "green university" and the leader in the educational sphere of Kyrgyzstan.

Expected qualifications for the project:

• 1 student from either the Environmental Sustainability and Climate Science Program or Applied Geology Department, who would help with finding and translating appropriate materials on the topic from Russian to English and vice versa
• 1 student from any department with good video making/editing skills, who would be in charge of producing promotional and informational videos on the topic
• Additional responsibilities will be communicated upon need

By the completion of the first phase of the project, student volunteers will receive:

1. Certificates of appreciation
2. Monetary reward
3. Recommendation letters from both CCE & CED upon request
