Planting Trees in Elm Grove
October 25, 2021
#elmgrove
On October 30, AUCA's Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) together with the French-Kyrgyz Ecotourism Association (AFKE) plans the massive tree planting activity in Elm Grove (Карагачевая Роща) with a special appearance of Jonathan Becker, AUCA's Interim President.
The purpose of the tree planting is to build a garden named after Fatima Khalil, AUCA graduate and bright human and women rights activist, on the territory of Elm Grove. Being one of the most unique, largest and oldest urban forests on the territory of Central Asia, Elm Grove attracts thousands of local and international visitors annually, who will have an opportunity to learn about Fatima and her life. Fatima Khalil is an embodiment of civic activism, thus remembrance of her will be connected to a beneficial to the society at large project - the “EcoPark” project, which is a joint initiative of AUCA and AFKE pursuing the goal of regenerating Elm Grove for years now.
We will be happy to see our active students join us in this important activity on constructing the "Garden of Fatima" and restoring the tree cover of Elm Grove, which serves as a biotic pump responsible for air purification in Bishkek. So, let's preserve the memory of Fatima Khalil and Elm Grove together!
