Literature Contest

On the 24th and 25th of November 2012, in Bishkek, British companies Silk Road Media and Hertfordshire Press publishing house present the first Open Central Asia Book Forum, an international forum and festival supporting the development of literature and the book publishing industry in Central Asia.

 

The festival will include an literature contest, open to the public, in several different categories.

 

Requirements:

 

“Literary work” category

 

Sumbissions must be sent electronically to konkurs@gorizonti.com and include: 1. Synopsis, 2. Complete file.  Preference will be given to works in English. Please, indicate “Literary work” as a topic of the letter.  Works of the following types will be accepted:

- poetry;

- short story;

- novel;

- essay.

The deadline for submission is October 10, 2012. The works will be uploaded to the web-site so that readers will have an opportunity to vote for the work they like.

 

“Literary translation” Category

Sumbissions must be sent electronically to konkurs@gorizonti.com and include: 1. Synopsis, 2. Complete translation (not partial), 3. A translation cannot have been previously published.  No language restrictions.  Please, indicate “Literary translation” as a topic of the letter.

 

“Illustration” Category

Sumbissions must be sent electronically to konkurs@gorizonti.com and include: illustrations for literary works of any type. Please, indicate “Illustration” as a topic of the letter.

 

Selection:

 

Selection of the finalists will be made by a commission comprised of organizing committee members and invited experts working in the publishing and literature sphere. As a result 9 finalists will be selected; they will take part in the Book Forum and Literature Festival together with famous authors. Finalists will have an opportunity to present their works within Open Central Asia Book Forum & Literature Festival.

 

Award ceremony for the winners in all nominations will take place during the Festival.

 

*Prize is £10 000

 

The informational partner of the forum – Vecherniy Bishkek – has set a separate nomination “Political essay”. The deadline for submission is November 1, 2012. The topic should be connected with Central Asia. Size of the work – no more than 20 000 characters. The works are accepted in electronic form and must be sent to konkurs@gorizonti.com. Please, indicate “Political essay” as a topic of the letter.
