Erasmus exchange program: How three students from Kyrgyzstan found themselves in a new way in Germany

AUCA students from Master of Arts in Sociology Manas Shaketaev, Nurzhan Moldokanova, and Meerim Egemberdieva spending their semester abroad at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg, Germany in the framework of Erasmus exchange program.

Read their impressions below about the new adventure of life:

Manas :“The opportunity to study in Germany at Otto von Guericke University as Erasmus student gave me great chance to open for myself new field of study – Peace and Conflict – to understand core principles, theories, and practices within this field of study and to improve my knowledge in social sciences, especially, on the part of methods. I think that this experience is valuable and useful for my academic and professional goals.”

Nurzhan : “Erasmus+ program gave me an incredible chance to study abroad, so I could realize most of my dreams and plans. I found most of the courses incredible I was very excited about it. I learned to solve everyday problems on my own, to make decisions, to communicate with representatives of other cultures. It was a great contribution to my educational and personal development.”

Meerim: “The Erasmus + program is a truly invaluable and cognitive experience in terms of developing professional, academic, and undoubtedly personal qualities that helped me become more independent, confident and open to the unknown. Also, in personal terms, these are new friends, emotions, impressions, travels, completely different cultural and social experiences. The exchange program is an experience that is really worth getting.”

Note: The Otto von Guericke University, founded in 1993 and is one of the youngest German universities with more than 14 thousand students, situated in Magdeburg, the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The Erasmus + grant and American University of Central Asia program offer a scholarship covering all travel expenses, provides accommodation in a dormitory, free German language course and up to 30 ECTS credit courses taught in English. Peace and Conflict Studies is a newly offered program that gives a broad both theoretical and practical understanding of peace and conflict situation in International Politics.
