On Wednesday, November 14 the celebration of the Annual Student Initiation dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the American University of Central Asia was held at the Kyrgyz National Philharmonic named after T. Satylganov. This year, the ceremony was especially solemn in honor of the attendance by the highest officials of Kyrgyzstan offering personal congratulations to AUCA students, faculty, and staff.
An event has started with the photo and rewards exhibition where more than 50 historical pictures of AUCA life were presented.
After the national anthems of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States of America, Almaz Kenenbaev, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, read a congratulatory message to the AUCA community on behalf of President Sooronbay Jeenbekov:
“Greetings to faculty, students, and staff of the university with the anniversary! I want to sincerely thank you for a productive and creative job and loyalty to the profession. I am sure that your graduates and students will become the successors of the best traditions of this university, and AUCA will always carry out its mission with dignity,” the presidential greeting says.
Altynai Omurbekova, Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Kudaiberdi Kozhobekov, Deputy of the Ministry of Education and Science, congratulated the class of 2022 with their best wishes.
Aziz Surakmatov, Mayor of Bishkek, also attended the ceremony. The Head of the capital municipality not only gave a greeting speech but also presented official certificates of appreciation to Jonathan Becker, Acting President of AUCA; Chyngyz Shamshiev, Vice-president and Chief Operating Officer; Nikolay Shulgin, Dean of Student Life; Nurgul Ukueva, Head of Economics; and Galina Gorborukova, Head of Sociology. The letters say that AUCA administration and faculty members were awarded “for conscientious, productive work and high professionalism.”
Brian Stimmler, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Bishkek, continued with a brilliant speech supported by his personal story of student life. Jonathan Becker concluded the ceremony with heartfelt words of welcome to AUCA's students who hail from over twenty countries across the globe.
Unarguably, the most beautiful part of the Initiation Ceremony was the “Alice in Wonderland” performance by AUCA students. Under the artistic direction of Nikolay Shulgin and the Student Life Office, AUCA's very own amateur artists produced the greatest and the most colorful show in Kyrgyzstan.
