The World Communication Association’s 2017 biennial international conference will be held at the American University of Central Asia’s new campus on August 2-6, 2017. From around the world, 100 scholars of communications, journalism and media studies, as well as journalists and media professionals, will be coming together to discuss and debate the theme, “World Conflicts and Disasters: Communication, Culture and Resolution”.

“Role of the Media for conflict transformation, peace and security in Central Asia”

  • Short bio

Since January 2017, Naoki Nihei has been engaged in peace-building, conflict prevention, inter-ethnic issues, cross-border cooperation, prevention of the violent extremism in the United Nations Office in Bishkek. As Peace and Development Advisor, Naoki provides technical advisory for building national capacity of conflict prevention through UN agencies’ activities in the country.

For the past years, Naoki has been engaged in socio-economic development in Central Asia through development assistance programs in his previous careers of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), serving as Deputy Director for Central Asia and the Caucasus in Tokyo and as Deputy Chief for JICA Uzbekistan Mission in Tashkent.

 

Holding the Master of Social Sciences in conflict resolution, currently he tackles the inter-ethnic issues, cross-border issues in the Ferghana Valley, and recent trend of radicalization and violent extremism and supports efforts by the Government of Kyrgyzstan for peace and security of the country.
