AUCA hosts AAICU conference

 American University of Central Asia hosted 22 university presidents and administrators from different countries, in Bishkek April 20-22 for the annual meeting of the American Association of International Colleges and Universities (AAICU). AAICU upholds the highest standards in American higher education, such as English-language instruction, a non-profit business model, liberal arts-inspired curricula, and American regional accreditation.

Association’s presidents and chief academic officers will provide an analysis of current policy and legislation affecting accreditation, and an overview of the accreditation process. AAICU President Celeste Schenck, president of The American University of Paris, opened the event with AUCA President Andrew Wachtel, who hosted a panel discussion on key issues facing university leaders.

The event included meetings of both presidents and deans, the various AAICU committees, and plenaries promoting the institutions’ shared mission.  Participants and partners also had the opportunity to experience the beauty of Kyrgyzstan at dinners held at Supara ethno-complex and the Ala-Archa National park, and through a variety of cultural tours around the city.  

AAICU is a leadership organization of American international universities, whose members provide responsible delivery and quality assurance of American higher education outside the United States. Member colleges and universities include the American Universities in Bulgaria, Armenia, Bishkek, Sharjah, Paris, Beirut, Cairo, Nigeria, Greece, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Rome as well as the Central European University in Budapest, Franklin University in Switzerland, Haigazian University in Beirut, Lebanese American University, Richmond University in London and Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco among others.
