November 21, 2016

On November 3, 2016 Laurier Fourniau, a young French director, screened his first feature Low Notes at AUCA. The film was shot in Los Angeles, where Laurier worked with Warner Brothers. "The three months internship was a great experience for me. The main hero in the film is a guy who worked at Warner Brothers", said Laurier.

From the Film’s Synopsis: Leon is a newcomer to gigantic Los Angeles, moving in the hills after he just broke up with Eva and left his past on the East Coast behind. Together with Alexis, an eccentric Chilean party boy, they explore the megalopolis. Tentacular L.A. turns out to be a fertile ground for this young, lost, and dreamless guy's neuroses. In the wake of Indie filmmakers of improvisation and spontaneity who inspired him, Laurier Fourniau has filmed Leon’s downward spiral across the city of angels, always working with the tension of where “reality” stops and “fiction” starts.

This is first time Fourniau has been to Kyrgyzstan. He came from Paris to do a photo project,  and learned about AUCA through social networks. The photographer and director decided to screen the film at AUCA for the students. “Kyrgyzstan reminds me of my childhood in Uzbekistan, where I lived and learnt Russian. These two countries are very similar,” he added.

*Laurier Fourniau is a young French director, who has been traveling since childhood and has lived abroad many times with his family in countries as diverse as Uzbekistan, Turkey and the USA, where he did an exchange program at UCLA.

After finishing a prestigious program in literature and philosophy in Bordeaux, he received a Master’s degree in writing/directing from La Sorbonne. Passionate about many creative fields, he pursued his studies in editing and cinematography at INSAS film school in Brussels, in addition to working in music and photography. Laurier Fourniau completed his education by producing Low Notes, his first feature film which he wrote, produced, directed, filmed and edited.
