A Train to Heaven...

A Train to Heaven...

March 7, 2012

On March 1, at AUCA, Nikolai Shulgin, Dean of Student Life, writer, songwriter, and founder of the “Debut” Student Theater, presented his new book “A Train to Heaven” (“Поезд в рай”).

The book is an amalgamation of stories and poetry of diverse genres. Some of them do not have a concrete plot, but when you begin to understand the spirit that binds the works together, you become enraptured.  The reader experiences these stories differently depeding on age, gender, race, etc. Some of them experience genius, some of them cannot understand what the story is about. If writing can be compared to cinematography, Shulgin performs at the art-house.

“I will be glad if the stories and poetry in my book will change someone's perception about the world,” Shulgin said.

Besides “A Train to Heaven,” Shulgin has written several different stories, memoires, and even fairy-tales, which have been translated into 7 languages.

At the presentation of his new work Shulgin also presented a collection of new songs, which were sung by AUCA students, and his previous work “Life and its Surroundings.”

“In my stories, the main character is always just an ordinary person, who percieves everything with a touch of irony” he stated.

At the presentation, Shulgin confessed he has a strong desire to find his own style of writing, “I am going to finish my book, which I worked on for almost three years, and, of course, I will continue searching for new forms within my own specific writing style, and for ways to deliver my message to readers in the future.”
