AUCA Senior, Amal-Sher Kurbanov launches “Meals,” a mobile food ordering application

On October 10, 2016, Amal-Sher Kurbanov, a student at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), launched Meals, an application allowing users to pre-order meals and reserve tables in cafés, restaurants or any other recreation center, with the aim of saving people time.

At the presentation, the Meals team spoke about their application and demonstrated its functions to AUCA students and faculty. At the moment, both users and restaurateurs are able to download Meals free of charge. It is already possible to order food and beverages in the AUCA branches of Sierra and Kofemania.

Amal-Sher Kurbanov, the developer of Meals, is a senior in Software Engineering. In fact, this is his second major; in June 2016, he was awarded his diploma from Journalism and Mass Communications at AUCA.

“The idea came to me when we were in one café with friends. We were discussing topics for our senior theses. I wanted to combine my theses from two departments. The only criterion was that this work must be interesting to me. Time was passing, and it took so long until our food was brought out. We had this thought that it would be great if we could do a pre-order of meals via application. I was very much taken with this idea (and even forgot that I am also studying in the JMC department!). Thus, I started my work on Meals and only later figured out how to combine this application with my thesis in Journalism.

The Meals team is made up of my friends. They have always supported me and believe in the success of the application. They help me with advertising on social networks and negotiating with the restaurants about cooperating with us.

The primary function of this application is pre-ordering meals, so when you arrive at any restaurant, your meal will be ready. Now, you don’t wait for your meal, it waits for you!”- said Amal.

At the moment, the application is already available for Android on Google Play. The iOS version is also ready for launch, and is just awaiting approval from Apple. On behalf of AUCA, we wish the Meals team success and further growth of their service!
