The TSPC in cooperation with the UNDP’s Rule of Law project is announcing call for research proposals concerning the rule of law

Dear AUCA students, faculty and staff!

The Tian Shan Policy Center in cooperation with the UNDP’s Rule of Law project, supported by the British Embassy to the Kyrgyz Republic is announcing call for research proposals concerning the rule of law. Researchers are invited to address the most pressing issues related with enhancing the rule of law in the Kyrgyz Republic and bring them to the attention of policy makers and the public.

Research proposals shall limit themselves to 1000 words and focus on the following areas:

1. Reform of the judiciary sector;
2. Access to justice in the Kyrgyz Republic;
3. Access to legal services in the Kyrgyz Republic;
4. Reform of the security sector to foster the rule of law;
5. Absence of corruption;
6. Gender issues and the Rule of Law;
7. Violent extremism and its consequences for the Rule of Law.

Participants are also welcome to submit their own topics for consideration.

Independent and impartial jury composed of people from civil society, state bodies, academic institutions will select the three best research proposals at an open competition for the most topical issue, best research questions and best methodology proposed.

The realization of maximum three winning research proposals will be financially supported by the UNDP’s Rule of Law project, as well as their later public presentation.

Financial remuneration to complete the research is estimated at 2,400$.  This includes all the field trip expenditures, interviews, fees to support additional experts etc.

Researchers shall submit a detailed budget.

General eligibility criteria:

Who can apply?

• Local Researchers with proven professional and academic experience are eligible to apply;

•  Group applications are also welcomed;

• The language of research project proposal writing can be either in English, Russian and Kyrgyz;

• The research project proposal shall consist of: short background information (overview of the problem), general aim of research, timelines and geographic frames, methodology used, proposed reporting, short information about the researcher (CV) as well as the budget.

The deadline to submit the research proposals is October 31, 2016.

Best proposals will be selected by the end of November 2016.

Researchers will be given up to 3 or 4 months to complete the assignments. Public presentations of the completed researchers will take place in March-April 2017.
