AUCA’s Spirit Week Starts Up with Jerseys and Cheerleaders

September 20, 2016

AUCA’s Spirit Week began last Monday, September 14th, 2016. Throughout last week, students dressed up for different themed days and participated in competitions. The first day was “Sport Day,” where students dressed up in jerseys, track suits, and cheerleading outfits. Several students participated in a relay race in AUCA’s forum, which included three parts.

Three teams of six students ran from the starting mark to a cone where the judges stood. Each participant had to jump rope 20 times and then run back to tag in their teammate. The second round had students running and passing balls between them. For the final part of the relay was the most fun. Participants ran while hoola-hooping. The winning team was awarded cake and bragging rights for at least a year at the end of the relay race.

Tuesday, the second day of Spirit Week, was Pajama Day. As one might guess, the students came to the University in their pajamas, showing off the most interesting pieces in their somniferous clothing. Some noteworthy outfits were a pajama-costume of Pikachu of Pokémon Fame, a Stitch from the Lilo and Stitch cartoon, a dragon, Superman, and a bear. A few girls even brought their teddy bears. The contests of Pajama Day perhaps unexpectedly exciting. First, participants showed their preferred sleeping methods. Second, the students sang lullaby covers in as rock, rap, opera and classical pieces of music. As a reward, contestants were given pillows as presents. In the last game, pillow-fought each other while trying to stay on a bench.

The final day of Spirit Week was Color Day. Freshmen arrived on campus decked out all in green, sophomores—yellow, juniors—blue, and seniors—white. Representatives from all the departments participated in the game, answering trivia about the University and remembering its history. The winning teams got a cake for their effort and now have claims to knowing the most about AUCA. Spirit Week certainly continues in the vein of an energetic and friendly welcome-back for our students. Hopefully they are now in good mood and ready to study and work hard!
