AUCA held Audio Journalism Workshop

AUCA held Audio Journalism Workshop

September 3, 2016

From August 30 - September 2, 2016 American University of Central Asia (AUCA) hosted a free and public Audio Journalism Workshop organized by Taxi Taxi, an innovative storytelling podcast from the South Caucasus.

The podcast's founders, Billie Jean Stirewalt and Vladic Ravich, led three days of classes to teach participants how to develop stories, record interviews, and get their shows to the public. The workshop was well-received and attended by a wide range of participants, including AUCA students and professors.

The Audio Journalism Workshops came about after Ms. Stirewalt received a fellowship from the Mount Holyoke College Alumnae Association to expand the work that she and Mr. Ravich had been doing in the South Caucasus.

The workshop and public support group, Radio Club Bishkek, aim to spread podcast culture to the region and encourage local artists, journalists, and entrepreneurs to explore audio production in new ways. The workshop organizers encourage anyone who is interested in starting a podcast in Kyrgyzstan to reach out to them for help or advice at taxitaxipodcast.com.

Taxi Taxi was also funded to produce its second season from Kyrgyzstan with 6 new episodes being released in March 2017.
