The conference is organized under the Center’s flagship initiative, the Asia Leadership Trek, in conjunction with the Trek’s inaugural visit to Central Asia. In addition to their visits to Bishkek and Osh in Kyrgyzstan, the Trek will also visit Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Almaty and Astana, Kazakhstan; and Tashkent and Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

Samuel Kim, the President of the Center for Asia Leadership, is excited to be organizing the inaugural Asia Leadership Conference to provide participants with the extraordinary opportunity to learn from workshop with fellows from Harvard and other top-tier universities as well as from esteemed local leaders.

“Since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Kyrgyzstan has been on the fast track towards becoming one of Central Asia’s fastest growing economies. Since 2012, we have organized over 50 conferences, attended by over 12,300 participants. This will be our first visit to Kyrgyzstan and to Central Asia, and we look forward to engaging with Kyrgyzstan’s young men and women and helping them build upon their leadership aspirations to make the country an even better place.”

Andrew Wachtel, President of American University of Central Asia, encourages Kyrgyzstan’s youth to take advantage of the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to the qualities that make great leaders.

“We are excited to partner with the Center for Asia Leadership to organize the inaugural Asia Leadership Conference in Kyrgyzstan for the benefit of our young emerging leaders. Both AUCA and CAL shares the passion and common goal of developing young men and women and equipping them with a real-world perspective required of the next generation of future leaders.”
