Alumni Association Meeting

Alumni Association Meeting

December 10, 2015

On November 27, the Alumni Relations Office and the Alumni Council held an Alumni Association Meeting at AUCA. The meeting gathered more than seventy alumni from different departments and class years. The first half of the meeting was official, with speeches from Alumni Council Members on the importance of alumni engagement and their support to the university.

At the meeting Alumni Council President Alibek Ismankulov reported on Alumni Council activity:

“Thanksgiving and New Year is often called the Season of Giving. And in this time, while we celebrate, I ask you to think about the less fortunate - the students who need your mentorship, your support to pay for the education, and your knowledge and advice. You can find out different ways you can contribute at auca.kg. If you have suggestions for alumni events in your area or ideas for improving communication, please let us know by contacting the Alumni Relations Office, or any member of the Alumni Council. We do want to hear your thoughts and suggestions. This is your Alumni Association and we aim to make it great!”

Afterwards Alumni Relations Office members talked about activities that were accomplished over the past year and presented their plans for the future cooperation with AUCA alumni. Cholpon Zhanadylova, Director of the Alumni Relations Office, highlighted in her speech the importance of establishing scholarships within departments by AUCA alumni.

The Anthropology department alumni has founded the Mary Schweitzer Scholarship for Excellence in Anthropology. Already more than 10 students have benefited from this scholarship. During the meeting a new scholarship initiative was discussed by ICP alumnus Chingiz Sharshekeev, who is establishing a new scholarship by ICP alumni for ICP students. This year, BA alumnus Semetei Omurgazy established a scholarship for NGA graduates. Another BA alumnus, Azamat Akeeleev, is also planning on establishing a scholarship for BA Department students.

The meeting continued with a Thanksgiving reception where the guests discussed their new ideas for AUCA alumni initiatives.
