On September 25, 2015, the Department of Psychology organized the Annual Psychology Student Symposium at American University of Central Asia (AUCA).

At the symposium, Michael Baranik, a professor in the Psychology Department, delivered the keynote presentation “The Psychology of Negotiations in a War Zone: the Case of Conflict in Sudan”.

The Psychology students’ presentations were divided by class year. The freshmen made their debut talking about professions in Psychology. Sophomores and Juniors gave presentations on individual projects, for example “A Man Without a Brain” by Arslan Gabdulkhakov and Kamilla Fairushina, “Psychology and Music” by Bekzat Amatakhunov, Mavlyuda Kamilova, Kylym Aitkulova and Aizhan Niyazova, “The Psychology of a Lie” by Aigerim Arykbaeva, Bakdoolot Kalambekova, Alina Zholchubekova, Nuriya Nuriddinova and Fotima Firoganova, and “On the Experiences of Research Assistants” by Mirzai Fasrishta, Victoria Alyabieva.

A panel of Juniors shared their experiences at the Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) section of the Autism Center “Hand to Hand”. Participants responded to a series of questions about autism spectrum disorders and the role of ABA in treating these conditions.

Seniors emphasized the role of psychologists in child development. They shared their experiences at the psychosomatic disorders ward in the National Center of Mental Health. Nikita Akulenko, Takulya Sapaeva and Zubeide Ozgen presented “The Moral Development of Children,” Nursultan Altynbek uulu presented “The Creative Development of Children,” and Begimai Izamilova, Begimai Kaparova, Umut Dzhumataeva and Jennifer Janybek presented “Internships in Clinical Settings.”
