Third Annual Innovative Kyrgyz Language Education Workshop

January 25, 2012

III Annual Seminar “Innovative Kyrgyz Language Education: Implementation Approaches” was held by Kyrgyz Language Department of AUCA. University professors and school teachers of Bishkek took part in this event. The main goal of the conference was the exchange of professional experience, discussion of education improving criteria in schools and universities, and discussion of problems of regular Kyrgyz language seminar in AUCA (as the first step to establish a scientific-methodical center).

The main message of the Seminar was the trend of increasing a demand for language with still significant barriers that prevent to study language in schools and other educational institutions. One of them is the lack of comprehensive methodological books, which can lead to both teachers and the student through the learning process, beginning from zero to advanced level.

During the seminar some professors hold master-classes. Samudinova Z.K. presented the master-class “The poem “Motherland” by Alykul Osmonov.” The master-class was held by the method of teaching Kyrgyz language through the song. Karypkulova E.A. also hold a master-class “The character and appearance on the painting “A Daughter of Soviet Kirgizia” by Chuikov A.” Master-class on the subject “National traditions-some methodological ways of teaching” was held by Akmatova A.

As a practical step in the promotion and provision of Kyrgyz language basis for its study, Gulmira Dusheeva, a professor of Kyrgyz Language Department in AUCA, developed a teaching book for beginners ”Kylym Karytkan Til,” which was also presented on the seminar. The book was published with the support of AUCA President Andrew Wachtel.

Participants noted the need for wide distribution of this textbook in schools and other institutions of higher learning and the importance of the publication of further parts of the book, which can be an excellent example of modern textbook for learning Kyrgyz as foreign language.

The book is very simple, logic, and comprehensive. The textbook contains also new vocabulary in Kyrgyz language, for example “tarjymal,” “jansakchy.” and it also contains historical facts and cultural heritage elements of Kyrgyz nation.

Nazgul Segizbaeva, a professor of Continuing Education Center in AUCA, states: “The lessons in this book are very smooth - the students are motivated by  logic of the textbook, where they can learn new vocabulary and are able to translate a text by themselves. This textbook contains all the necessary variety of interactive learning. Even the international students begin to speak Kyrgyz after 20 lessons. It is the success, no doubt!”

As Dusheeva states, “Many currently existing textbooks in schools and universities do not meet the practical requirements of the rapid, qualitative and in-depth study of language. The book “Kylym Karytkan Til” is presented with all cultural and socio-political changes happened during these 20 years. The lessons are presented in tables, schemes, and presentations through grammatical material that contributes to effective language acquisition.

The book of Kyrgyz language can be used for high school, colleges, universities, and employees who begin to learn the language.

At the end of the workshop, professors and teachers have noted that such seminars are necessary for professional development and introduction of innovative methods of teaching the language, as well as for the exchange of professional experience.
