TechCamp at AUCA

The American University of Central Asia is proud to host at its campus and to work with TechCamp, from September 30^th to October 2^nd.

TechCamp is a workshop held in order to connect leaders in the technology community with local civil society organizations (CSO) and their representatives. The ultimate goal is to empower CSOs with technological expertise in order to increase their effectiveness in the areas of promoting economic opportunity, increasing safety of citizens, increasing effectiveness of democratic institutions, and addressing issues related to climate change and energy management. They will accomplish these goals by increasing digital literacy, building professional networks, and generally increasing their presence and effectiveness in the digital sphere.

TechCamp is a result of cooperation between the U.S. Department of State, through its Civil Society 2.0 initiative, and the Community of Democracies, a global intergovernmental coalition in support of democratic rule and institutions founded in 2000.

During the workshop, representatives from 40 local CSOs will learn about eTextbooks and education through technology, visual communication, and youth engagement among other topics. Activities like “speed-geeking” will quickly orient them to different topics and presenters, and give them a wide base of knowledge to build on.

The goals of AUCA and TechCamp are parallel, as both are preparing their students for constructive and responsible engagement with the local and global community. AUCA is thrilled to have the opportunity to work closely with TechCamp and its partners, and hopes that all involved will be able to work together to increase the strength of civil society here in Kyrgyzstan.
