TSPC launches new Project
The Tian Shan Policy Center is now launching a project on "Protecting the Rights of Kyrgyz Migrants" (2012-2014).  Its purpose is to raise awareness and heighten the level of debate on the policy issues relevant to protecting Kyrgyz migrants and their families. 
With a grant from the Open Society Foundations Central Eurasia Project, the TSPC will conduct research and analysis, and disseminate findings of best practices and standards for consideration by policy-makers, international agencies, as well as NGOs in the Kyrgyz Republic.  It will facilitate more robust dialogue of reforms by convening stakeholder dialogue meetings.  The TSPC anticipates that the Project can help strengthen the work of government, policy-makers, and NGOs.

USAID Releases 15th Edition of NGO Sustainability Index for Eurasia
Bishkek – The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) released the 15th edition of its Non-Governmental Organizations Sustainability Index – now called the Civil Society Organization Sustainability Index (CSOSI) in recognition of the broad range of nonprofit civil society organizations (CSOs) active in the region.

A gift from AUCA
Official handing over of “Contemporary international law materials and cases” book took place on 25 June of 2012 in Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyz Republic. Executive Director of Tian-Shan Policy Center (TSPC) of AUCA Mr. Rodger Dillon presented 14 books to Chair on Juridical Issues and Rule of Law Mr. Toktogul Tumanov for use and further distribution among other committees.

Contemporary International Law Materials and Cases
On 12 June, 2012 AUCA Tian Shan Policy Center and Fulbright Alumni Association of Kyrgyzstan held an event to launch the new book entitled, “Contemporary International Law". The book, which was edited and published by law professors from three universities in Kyrgyzstan, American University of Central Asia, Kyrgyz National University, and Kyrgyz State Academy of Law, was celebrated as the first such resource book to help modernize Kyrgyz legal education.

TSPC Produces Compendium on Recommendations to Kyrgyz Republic from United Nations Bodies for Training with Government Ministries and NGOs
April 24-26/TSPC Deputy Director Michelle Leighton and AUCA faculty affiliate Gulnaz Naamatova produced the first extensive Compendium on Recommendations for the Kyrgyz Republic from United Nations Human Rights Council, Treaty Bodies, and Special Procedures for a dialogue among government policy-makers in Kyrgyzstan, international experts and NGOs in Bishkek, April 24-26th, with support from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for the Central Asian Region and the European Union project on civil society.

TSPC Hosts Conference with CASI on Forging Partnerships with Kyrgyzstan's Policy-Makers
Feb. 1/The Tian Shan Policy Center (TSPC) in association with the Central Asian Studies Institute (CASI) convened a conference at AUCA on how to strengthen cooperation between government, think-tanks, and research institutions.  The dialogue sought to broaden perspectives for new initiatives in policy development.  Participants included Members of Parliament, research institutes and centers, experts, civil society organizations, and university faculty and students. The TSPC offered its support to government agencies and the Jogorku Kenesh in developing legislative anlaysis and policy reforms.

Bringing the Climate Change Debate Down to Earth
The Tian Shan Policy Center organized a conference and roundtable on 'Rethinking Water and Land Management Strategies to Protect Kyrgyz Communities and Livelihoods' to facilitate dialogue among scholars and experts on advancing environmental sustainability and climate adaptation in Kyrgyzstan.  Participants included members of government, international organizations, NGOs, researchers, scholars and students.
