Johan Engvall is a post-doctoral researcher at the Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies, and a Research Fellow with the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute & Silk Road Studies Program, a Joint Research and Policy Center affiliated with Johns Hopkins University-SAIS, Washington D.C., and the Stockholm-based Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP). His specialization is in the domestic political systems of post-Soviet countries, primarily in Central Asia and the Caucasus. He is the author of numerous articles on Central Asian affairs, and of the dissertation The State as Investment Market: An Analytical Framework for Interpreting Politics and Bureaucracy in Kyrgyzstan, published by Uppsala University in 2011. His most recent publication is Against the Grain: How Georgia Fought Corruption and What It Means published by the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute – Silk Road Studies Program in June 2012.
