Giulia Baiutti is a student from the University of Bologna, Italy. She is currently enrolled at the MA “Interdisciplinary research and studies on eastern Europe (MIREES)”. Her main research interests deal with the Chinese economic involvement in Central Asia. In the specific, she is currently investigating the possible impact of Chinese trade and investments of the Belt and Road Initiative in the valley of Ferghana. She is specifically interested in understanding whether a possible positive turn in the economy of the valley (thanks to the increasing Chinese economic presence) might lead to an ease in the relationships between the different ethnicities cohabiting in the valley.
