David Levy completed his BA in Sociology, Linguistics, and Russian at the University of Georgia in 2004. After earning a Masters degree in Nationalism Studies at Central European University in Budapest in 2005, he taught Sociology for three years at the American University of Central Asia in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He is interested in the relationship between political and economic systems and the cultural worlds in which they operate, particularly with regard to the post-Soviet space. His current research focuses on the regulation of religious organizations and activities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
