About CASI: Redefining the field

Existing scholarship on Central Asia is drawn within very narrow lines and largely confined to issues of policy and nationality, with most of the seminal texts in the field in the last ten years devoted to questions of ethnic identity. CASI intends to define itself, and AUCA by extension, by drawing outside these lines and by making the university a place where scholars can participate in reimagining the contours of Central Asian scholarship.

Since 2019, CASI is striving to brand itself as a center of excellence in the study of the Central Asian arts and humanities and become one of the few if not the only center devoted to Central Asia with a sustained emphasis on literature, art, and history.
