On Tuesday, November 26, AUCA hosted a “Text Analysis Methods and Tools” workshop for teachers and researchers from local universities in Kyrgyzstan. This was the first of three planned workshops within the broader project titled “Digital Tools and Methods in the Humanities”, supported by the AUCA Presidential Research and Education Fund (PREF).
Twenty educators from eight universities accepted the invitation to attend the workshop, where they learned and practiced digital methods and tools for text analysis.
Kamilya Kadyrova, Director of AUCA New Generation Academy, welcomed the participants and shared information about the overall project and the aims and program of the first workshop in the series within the project. Jyldyz Bekalaeva, AUCA Library Director, introduced the concept of Digital Humanities and its methods and tools. Participants practiced digital tools such as Google Ngram Viewer and Voyant and discussed opportunities for integrating digital methods in teaching, learning, and research.
Daniyar Karabaev, Head of LAS, presented the AntConc digital tool—an open-source application for statistical text analysis. He also shared his experience teaching Manas Studies, where statistical tools helped engage students in exploring traditional epics from new perspectives.
The next workshop on “Geoinformation Systems and Digital Maps” will be held on December 12, 2024.
