December 13, 2018
On December 1, 2018, the American University of Central Asia hosted the 1st Annual Student Thesis Symposium of Social Sciences “Writing Senior and Master Thesis in Social Sciences” organized by the Division of Social Sciences at the American University of Central Asia, namely Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Journalism and Mass Communications, and Television, Cinema and Media Arts Programs.
This symposium aimed to create a common platform for both undergraduate and master students to present their senior and master theses and projects, discuss them and exchange their feedbacks. Senior and master thesis is an important part of the curriculum and each student of AUCA is required to write and defend his senior or master thesis or project to receive a diploma.
Two years ago the presentations of students on their internships and fieldworks and the presentations of students on their senior and master theses and projects were made at a common student symposium of the Division of Social Sciences. However, this year it was decided to split it into two: the Student Symposium on internships and fieldworks that took place in October 20, 2018, and the other Student Thesis Symposium that was organized on December 1, 2018.
The 1st Student Thesis Symposium on December 1, 2018, brought together more than 60 senior and master theses and projects from the five mentioned programs of the Division of Social Sciences. The symposium included 10 panels that were moderated by students. Each student at the symposium was given a chance to present his thesis and progress for 15-20 minutes and then answer to the questions and comments of other students and professors. The best presentations chosen by the juries from the faculty members of the programs in each panel were awarded by the certificates. The certificates for best presentations were handed to the winners at the closing ceremony.
