On Wednesday, November 1st, the American University of Central Asia’s Writing and Academic Resource Center (WARC) celebrated its sixth year of providing tutoring services to the students of AUCA. The event was marked with cake and refreshments for the WARC tutors and guests from the Advising Office, the First Year Seminar, the New Generation Academy, the Center for Teaching and Learning Technology, and the Grants Office. Everyone was happy to enjoy the time together, and many kind words of encouragement were shared among the guests.
“Happy birthday to the WARC team! I appreciate sensing that AUCA students are taken care of and the WARC team wants to see them succeed. I strongly believe that WARC makes a constant great impact on writing, math, and other skills among the students,” said Gulnur Esenalieva, Director of Academic Advising and Career Services.
A lot has changed since cooperation with Bard College led to the establishment of the WARC in 2011. The past six years have seen the WARC grow from a small, writing-centered group of tutors into a much larger, multifaceted learning support center working closely with the university’s many academic departments and administrative offices.
Students who have tutored with the WARC in the past have since gone on to successful careers in various fields, and many return to AUCA remarking that their time as WARC tutors was among the most memorable and meaningful experiences of their lives.
It may seem like a daunting task for a mere 25 people to provide tutoring services, research consultations, and professional development workshops to AUCA’s over 1,200 students, but the WARC’s tutors and administrative staff unequivocally insist it is a rewarding labor of love and look forward to continuing their work for many years to come.
