AUCA launches online MBA course

AUCA launches online MBA course

July 19, 2016

Starting in the 2016-2017 academic year, the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) will launch its Online MBA program. The program is aimed primarily at business professionals, whose schedules are often not workable with being a full-time student. The online format also caters to students from rural areas of the Kyrgyz Republic and international students, primarily from other Central Asian countries.

The Online MBA course makes it possible to study from anywhere in the world and at anytime with just a computer and internet access.

Lectures will be recorded from the group classes, so students will have access to the videos throughout the entire academic period. Students can always watch whatever classes they missed and re-watch classes to refresh their memory prior to exams.

The MBA program’s online course on banking was successfully tested at AUCA in June. Students liked working with their teacher through Adobe Connect. As a result, the university decided to adopt the distance learning MA program into learning process.

AUCA faculty are already actively using Google Classroom, a free system of distance learning made by Google. Google classroom provides a framework for students to upload and submit homework to their teachers online. Teachers can share their work with each other and access teacher books, information, and useful links in group chats. Teachers can also securely and privately keep track of homework and grades. For AUCA, these platforms considerably ease and speed up the learning process.

In principle, the system for the Online MBA program is the same. However, according to Jean-Baptiste Jault, the director of distance education under the Division of Economics and Business Administration, the system is improved and easier to use vis-à-vis distance learning.

Through the online program, MBA faculty members conduct virtual classes similar to an online conference. Up to 100 users will be able to participate in the class simultaneously.

“It will not be videos of classes or one-way communication. It will be live-broadcasting of lectures and seminar classes. Students will be able to see and hear their teacher and their classmates, to carry out tasks on a virtual whiteboard, to review previous comments, and to look over the professor’s material. At the same time, students can ask questions, which teaching assistant will be able answer in a chatbox,” said Jault.

To learn more about distance education and see a demonstration of the Online MBA program, make sure to tune in to the MBA program’s Facebook-Live broadcast July 20, 2016, at 20:30 Bishkek time. We look forward to seeing you!
