January 27, 2016 the Deputy Chief of Mission in the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan Alan Meltzer visited AUCA and talked to students about the U.S. presidential election process.
AUCA President Andrew Wachtel introduced Mr. Meltzer to the students, “Alan has been all over the world. One of the things about working in foreign services is that they send you to various places, places you don’t necessarily want to go. He’s been in Uruguay, Mexico, Russia, Georgia, doing a variety of different tasks. Alan is, by training, a lawyer. He went to the University of Virginia Law School, consider one of the best law school in the United States. As an undergraduate, he went to a liberal arts college, not too different from AUCA—In fact, not too different in size either, called Haverford College”.
“This is not my first visit to AUCA. I came by the University to meet with Dr. Wachtel and I came back when Secretary Kerry was here. But, it is always good to come back to AUCA, and I'm very glad to be with you here today. […] I thought it would be good to spend some time with you, explaining [the US Presidential Election] to you, so you can better understand the process as you read about it in the media”, said Alan Meltzer.
After the presentation, students engaged with Mr. Meltzer, asking different questions concerning the American presidential election process.
