P.S. Special greetings to you, student of Anthropology Department! I am a CAA Alumni and I graduated from the same department in 2005. Now I have a wonderful opportunity to reflect back and share with you about the person who touched me most during my years of study. When I think of Cultural Anthropology - the first name that comes to my mind is Mary Schweitzer. She was the first one who opened up to me the heart of anthropology- the study of humans in all of its aspects- she showed me the "humanity" heart of anthropology. She let me see that anthropology is not only an armchair study, a distant learning of human life and the “weaved, sophisticated web of behaviors and habits" that we humans create, but that it is rather a very alive, exciting and full of involvement process, a "social drama" – life itself! She helped me to see that while there are arguments between "Structuralism vs. Functionalism" and between "Symbolism vs. Marxism" etc. that the boundaries are very blurry and we, as a human entity, have much more in common than what divides us. I think the values that I would desire to pass on to you from the lessons taught by Professor Mary Schweitzer are discipline, human dignity, excellence, love, involvement and commitment. And I want to wish you, personally, that in the process of your study and as you graduate, that you can say like Professor Mary Schweitzer could say, with confidence, "I am thankful to be able to combine that what I like with that what also brings me profit." I cheer you on - on your journey in the academia and beyond!

Sincerely,
