New Master’s Programme in Population and Development – Moscow, Russia

This new Master’s programme will develop students’ skills in applying multi-disciplinary analytic approaches to population development and resource allocation issues that are essential for public administration in numerous sectors. A strong theoretical background and history of population development issues are provided together with up-to-date approaches for analyzing development challenges and projecting population structure and the needs for resources. Using this knowledge as a foundation, development policy and key demographic challenges (from the recent past, present, and near future) are discussed. 


Duration: 2 years full-time

Campus: Moscow (HSE offers dormitories in central Moscow for all students)


Courses offered may include:

Economics of the public sector; Population change and economic development; Theories and mechanisms of modern public administration; Statistical analysis and statistical packages; Demography; Economics of population; Social policy: foundations and implementation; Inequality, poverty, and the quality of life; Trends, measurement and policy; Family planning; Sexual and reproductive health; Ageing society and development; Health systems and health policy: comparative analysis; Migration studies and migration policy; Trends and development of the Post-Soviet population; Gender and Development.

Students also have the opportunity to take courses offered by other HSE Master’s programmes, contingent on departmental permission.
