Dr. Görkem Atsungur is Associate Professor and Head of Department of the International and Comparative Politics (ICP) program at the American University of Central Asia. Dr. Atsungur earned his Ph.D. degree in the Political Science Department (Majoring in International Relations and Minoring in Nationalism Studies) at the Central European University (CEU). He holds Magister degree in Political Science - European Politics from Masaryk University in Czechia, Master of Arts in European Studies from Istanbul Bilgi University, and Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Cyprus International University.

Dr. Atsungur joined AUCA in 2012. Over ten years of teaching experience at AUCA, he has been offering more than twenty courses, including the Network and OSUN Online Courses, to deliver up-to-date content and work on students’ critical and professional skills. Dr. Atsungur, furthermore, has extensive experience at the administrative level, as a member of the Uchenyi Sovet and Faculty Senate (particularly in the Student Intellectual Life Committee, and Research Committee). Currently, he is also Head of Social Sciences division. 

Dr. Atsungur received the Amy Sturrock Advising Award for Best Student Advisor twice (in 2013 and 2014), the Best Thesis Supervisor Award at the ICP department for the 2021-2022 academic year, and the Distinguished Teaching Award in recognition of excellence in teaching and dedication to the growth and enrichment of AUCA students for the 2021-2022 academic year.
