AUCA High School to be opened on September 2016

March 18, 2016

March 18, 2016, a press-conference was held at the American University of Central Asia, announcing the opening of an AUCA High School in partnership with the Bilimkana Social Fund.

AUCA High School will admit students from 8-11th grade. The high school will prepare students for the AUCA entrance exams as well as other outstanding universities of the world.

Besides the general education curriculum required by the Ministry of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, AUCA High School will give special attention to the advanced study of languages (English, Kyrgyz) and mathematics. In the evening, additional academic English classes will be taught at AUCA High School (for TOEFL exams) and college mathematics classes by AUCA faculty members currently working at the New Generation Academy (NGA).

Classes will be taught in English, Russian and Kyrgyz.

The school will be located on AUCA’s new campus, so students will have access to the library, media resources, IT-labs and the sports hall. According AUCA President Andrew Wachtel, the school will allow students to “breathe” the university’s aura, to see student life from inside, and to absorb its spirit and culture.

School students will be able to attend classes and seminars with AUCA students, to hear and understand how interesting classes will be for them, and to easily find out more information about departments, academic requirements, and the extracurricular life of AUCA students.

“It will create additional opportunities for students to see teaching process and to engage directly with AUCA professors, helping students avoid indecision when choosing their major. Many incoming freshmen are deprived of this opportunity,” said Elnura Osmonalieva, director of the Bilimkana Fund.

Next year construction of the new school building near the university will begin.

President Andrew Wachtel commented, “Since the beginning of construction at AUCA, I thought about the opening of a high school. Some American universities have high schools under them. So when we provided ourselves with a new campus, and we found partners, it became possible to open high school under university. This is a good opportunity to prepare high quality university entrants, who speak English well. Moreover, we are going to give our students more than just knowledge. The education process will be set up in such a way, that students will be able to discuss their own ideas, push their own point of view, and, if it’s necessary, argue with the teacher and give arguments in their favor. That is to say, the students should be educated, confident, and communicative. The major point is that student must enjoy studying. Education will be effective only if that’s true. Our goal is not just education, we want encourage the desire to learn.”

Registration for the school is open. Call 0552 442603 for more information.

Preliminary English testing for students, meetings with parents, and introductory tours at AUCA are held every Saturday from 10:00 to 13:00
